A Near-Cookie Experience and An Arm-Flailing Kudos From TheBeatleSubmarine

Hey, Beatlemaniacs!

So this week in TheBeatleSubmarine, Sunday Submariner, Karen, did a contest in which the viewer had to guess which song she was lip-syncing. If you got them all right, she'd give you a cookie. So I figured I'd give it a try. I got 'em all right except "Your Song" by Elton John. I mistakingly said "Daniel's Song!" Whoops. Oh, well no cookie for me this time! But In Karen's recent video she named me runner-up and promoted THE BIG BEAT in her vid! YAY!!!

Also, coming back from her two week absence was Thurday Submariner, Nicole. She promised gratuitous amounts of randomness and, boy, did she deliver! From funny Beatles pics to drawing Paul with her eyes closed, This video delivered rendomness by the spoonful. She then gave me and THE BIG BEAT a thumbs up and an arm-flailing kudos!!

Check out these videos below and more on TheBeatleSubmarine YouTube channel!

Thanks, girls, for the support!!

TODAY IN BEATLES HISTORY!! "Mrs. Lennon" Single Release

40 years ago, September 29, 1971, Yoko Ono's first independent single "Mrs. Lennon" was released with "Midsummer New York" as its B-side track.

I particularly LOVE "Mrs. Lennon." It is such a simple song, with Ono on vocals, her husband, John, rockin' the keys, and friend and bandmate, Klaus Voorman holdin' the lows on the bass. Although having a simple structure, the song definitely inspires such a haunting atmosphere. Along with the mood and the cryptic lyrics, this track really provides a great window into the art John and Yoko made together. Both of them being unique artists and performers, they definitely opened eachothers' minds eye. I'm very glad that such a loving marriage produced music like this.

I have included the clip from John and Yoko's September 11, 1971 appearance on The Dick Cavett Show in which the pair introduce "Mrs. Lennon" and its accompanying video. The visuals, just as haunting and cryptic, further stand as a testament to the free expression that the Ono-Lennon's shared with themselves and the world.

TODAY IN BEATLES HISTORY!! ABBEY ROAD HITS SHELVES!!

42 years ago, September 26, 1969, Abbey Road was released! This album, although not The Beatles' final release, was the last to witness John, Paul, George, and Ringo record as a "unit." Much like 1968's The Beatles, Abbey Road's recording was less than united. Many of the songs were recorded in pieces and individually, but ultimately the record was considered one of The Beatles' most tightly recorded albums.

7th ANNUAL JOHNNY RAMONE TRIBUTE! - Oct. 1, 2011

Now, you may ask yourself, "What's a story about The Ramones doing on a Beatles blog?"

Well, in case you didn't know; The Ramones were named after Paul McCartney!!

That's right! Back in the Silver Beetles days, Paul was known under the pseudonym 'Paul Ramon.' As explained in The Beatles Anthology film, Paul felt the name "Ramon" sounded exotic, so he went with it. Paul also used the surname to anonymously check into hotels while with The Beatles.... Well, decades later a young musician named Douglas Colvin was playing guitar in an new Rock group, but soon switched over to bass (hmmm.. sounds like a bassist we all know...). Colvin was inspired by McCartney's use of the name Ramon so he suggested to the band that they all adopt the name "Ramone." That young bassist was Dee Dee Ramone... So, The Ramones were named as such because Dee Dee liked Paul's pseudonym, "Ramon".

Now that we've made the connection with The Beatles and The Ramones... ON TO THE TOPIC AT HAND!!

OCTOBER 1 marks the 7th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute at Hollywood Forever Cemetery!! I went to last year's Tribute for the first time, and I gotta say; IT WAS A BLAST!! Radio station Indie 103 was there MC-ing and interviewing drummer Tommy Ramone, Metallica's Kirk Hammett, and many others. Also, once the day became night two movies were projected on a 20-foot mausoleum wall. The first was "Rock And Roll High School" featuring The Ramones. Then they screened one of Johnny's faves, "The Bride Of Frankenstein." This year, Horror Punk band, The Misfits will be there and the movie selections include "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" featuring The Ramones AND "Plan B From Outer Space."

I STRONGLY SUGGEST ANYONE AND EVERYONE GO TO THIS YEAR'S TRIBUTE!! It's only 10 bucks and the money goes to fund The Johnny Ramone Research Fund for cancer. And, because it's at a cemetery and it's outdoors, you are allowed to bring picnic dinners and drinks!

THE BIG BEAT Promoted on TheBeatleScruffs YouTube Channel

Hey, Beatlemaniacs!

As you know, THE BIG BEAT is coming soon to Audio8ball.com! Well, a couple weeks back I discovered two really special YouTube Channels; "TheBeatleScruffs" and "TheBeatleSubmarine", A group of teen Beatlemaniacs who record daily videos featuring Beatles topics, discussions, opinions, reviews... BEATLES TALK OF ALL SORTS! I love seeing younger generations take the time to apply their passion for The Beatles and turn it into a unique, expressive, and insightful venture. You'd be very surprised how knowledgeable they are on The Beatles' aesthetic and history! These kids are too cool!

Well, recently Carly, the Sunday Scruff, and Fishy, Friday's Scruff, promoted THE BIG BEAT! (which you can see below) I'm so grateful for the interest they have shown THE BIG BEAT! In return I will promote them regularly on the radio show. I will produce recaps/teasers of their vids and play them on the show.

PLEASE CHECK OUT THEIR CHANNELS! You're sure to fall in love with their vids!

TheBeatleSruffs

TheBeatleSubmarine

Thank you to the Scruffs and the Submariners for sharing their love of The Beatles with the world!

ROLL UP, ROLL UP!!

Hello, hello!! I'm Bob Vincent and welcome to THE BIG BEAT BLOG!! Let's get you acquainted with myself and the purpose of "THE BIG BEAT". I'm an Multiple Award-winning broadcaster with an undying passion for Rock and Roll, vinyl records, and The Beatles, which has been helpful in the development of THE BIG BEAT. THE BIG BEAT showcases the career-spanning music of The Beatles as well as their solo works, cover songs, and even their kids' and wives' music. The Beatles definitely speak for themselves, but in addition to the tunes I will also have in-studio guests ranging from Beatles-tribute acts to Beatlemaniacs like you and I.

I was born decades after The Beatles existed. As a young'n, I want to help bridge the generational gap between Rock and Roll fans. I also wish to further explore and understand The Beatles' universe by deeply immersing my heart and mind in The Beatles' music and the stories of those who were actually around to hear the latest Beatles record. I greatly look forward to sharing this timeless music with all of you!

So that's my deal. If you have any questions, concerns, requests, comments, or simply want to say "HI", feel more that free to drop me a line. Keep a lookout regularly. You never know what wacky thing I may post next.

"KEEP THAT ROCK ROLLIN'!" -- BoB
